FAQs

Planning Your Stay
How do I get to the lodge?

We are located just over the BC border, 15 minutes west of Lake Louise. See the map for specifics

How can I check availability?

Give us a call! We will help you schedule your stay. Phone us at 250-343-6410.

What are the accommodations like?

We offer lodge rooms and individual cabins (in the summer and fall seasons). Each room and cabin is appointed with a luxurious bed, down filled comforters and has at its doorstep one of the most spectacular views.

During the winter months we only open our main lodge, creating a very warm and cozy space for our 16 guests.

Can I book my stay online?

We feel a personal touch is best when it comes to booking at O’Hara. Please give us a call and we would be happy to help you plan your O’Hara vacation.

How accessible is the lodge?

It feels like you are a million miles from anywhere! The reality is it is only a 2 1/2 hour trip from the Calgary airport to our parking lot or 40 minutes from Banff.

Can I reserve the entire lodge?

Want to get a group of friends or family together in a magical place? You can give us a call! At certain times of the year we can offer exclusive bookings at the lodge.

Can my company or organization visit Lake O'Hara Lodge for a meeting or retreat?

Yes. Lake O’Hara is the place to go to eliminate distractions. There are certain times of the year that we can offer exclusive booking for retreats, and typically mid-winter is the best time.

What is the best way to contact the lodge staff?

The lodge staff want to make sure you’re getting the personalized service you deserve. So give us a call – we would be happy to discuss your plans for O’Hara. Due to our backcountry location, email isn’t an option.

How many people can I bring with me?

The Lodge is a popular place to visit. As a result it is often very hard to book any more than 2 rooms at a time. However there are some times during the year when you can have an exclusive booking at the lodge. Exclusive bookings at O’Hara work best with a nice small group from 12-16 people. If you have a big getaway planned, give us a call – at times, we have hosted wedding groups of up to 50 people.

Is there a bar or nightlife in the area?

It’s a different kind of night life at O’Hara; the moonlit skies or a glimpse of the northern lights will entertain you. During the summer months our staff put on a light hearted show each Saturday night.

You won’t find yourself wanting for a drink, however – we have one of the best BC Boutique wine selections in the country as well as  some great micro brewed beer from just down the road.

While you Visit
Do you have a list of available wines?

We represent a selection of some of British Columbia’s best boutique wineries. Our wine list changes to reflect what we feel are some of the best wines available in any given season. Here are some wineries we like.

For a true mountain and wine experience, call us to see if we have any upcoming wine dinners planned!

I have special dietary needs. Can the kitchen handle special requests?

Our dynamic kitchen crew can handle most dietary allergies. Just check with us ahead of time and we can let you know and be prepared for your stay.

Can I bring my kids to the lodge?

Summer time is the ideal time for families to visit and introduce the next generation to O’Hara. We are a family run business and are happy to welcome younger family members in the summer.

Can I bring my cell phone?

Sure, bring it – unfortunately, it won’t work as there is no coverage in our remote mountain location. You’ll most likely be using it as a camera! Our guests appreciate truly being unplugged for a short period of time. There is a pay phone at the lodge that you are welcome to use should you really need to get in touch with someone.

What should I pack?

When you come to the mountains you need to be prepared for a variety of weather. Check out our winter packing list.

When is the best time to see the larches?

The larch trees start showing their colours just after the middle of September and continue to glow until the last week in September.

Should I hire a mountain guide?

If you are looking for a new challenge or have always yearned to see what the view is from the top then yes you should hire a Guide. We work with some of, what we feel, are the best Mountain Guides in Canada. These are professionals who have undergone years of training. We think of them as having their PhD in Mountain Craft.  The Rates for Guiding are set by the mountain guides in the area. Give us a call for current guiding rates.
