Three generations of families have operated Lake O'Hara Lodge, creating a unique bond between us and this land we call home. That's why we are committed to being good stewards. Among our many environmental initiatives:

Water Conservation: Our vacuum toilet system uses a meager one liter of water per flush.

Wastewater Treatment: Our membrane bioreactor system is one of the most sophisticated water treatment solutions in the Canadian Rockies.

Water Pre-Heating: A recirculating system uses surplus heat produced by the lodge's propane-powered generators to pre-warm our domestic hot water.

Our legacy of sustainability permeates nearly every aspect of our business, we:

  • use native plants and shrubs to reclaim landscapes.
  • do not use phosphorous-based laundry soaps and/or dishwashing soaps.
  • purchase seasonal produce and food supplies from local producers.
  • are a financial supporter of the Lake O'Hara Trails Club.
  • have an in-house recycling program for paper, glass, tin and plastics.
  • support regional vineyards by boasting a wine list composed exclusively of award-winning British Columbia wines.
  • along with the University of Calgary and Parks Canada, contribute both financial and in-kind support for ongoing research activities in the area.
  • are currently investigating the feasibility of running electric vehicles on the access road.
